Our Story

Founder's Story

The Journey of Dr. Albert Munanga

Caregiving is sacred, complex, and powerful. It requires presence, patience, and an immense amount of trust. And yet, caregivers are so often stretched thin, overlooked, and expected to give endlessly without being poured into. We exist to change that.

We believe caregivers deserve more than recognition—they deserve real support, real rest, and a real community that sees them, values them, and lifts them up. When caregivers are cared for, everyone rises.

This is care, coming full circle.

“There are countless individuals in this world who embrace the most challenging and often thankless work—caring for our community. All too often, these remarkable souls do so while silently grappling with their own struggles to care for themselves and their families.

Growing up, I was acutely aware of their quiet strength and boundless compassion, and I still witness it today through the tireless dedication of caregivers who selflessly support loved ones, neighbors, and even strangers in need.”

The Serengeti Care Foundation was born from this profound understanding and commitment: to support and uplift those who dedicate their lives to serving others. We recognize the sacrifices they make, the emotional toll it can take, and the unrelenting challenges they face daily.

To caregivers: “You matter deeply to us. We see you; we honor the incredible work you do, and we are here to care for you just as you care for others. Our mission is to provide the support, resources, and compassion you deserve, because when we take care of those who care for others, we create a ripple effect of hope and healing throughout our community.”

– Albert Munanga, Dr. BH, MSN, MBA, RN, HC

No poverty

Albert’s academic journey is marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence. He earned a Doctorate in Behavioral Health, a Master of Science in Nursing, and an Executive Master of Business Administration. These qualifications not only showcase his dedication to understanding the multifaceted aspects of healthcare but also equip him with the tools to effect meaningful change. His professional trajectory spans various leadership roles in healthcare, education, and community empowerment, reflecting a holistic approach to addressing societal need approach to addressing societal needs

Good health

In Zambia, Albert took on the leadership of the School of Hope, an organization devoted to empowering women and youth through education in farming, health, and business. The mission
was clear: to break the cycle of poverty and enable families to achieve economic independence, thereby laying the foundation for sustainable futures across generations. This initiative underscored Albert’s belief in the transformative power of education and community support.

Upon transitioning to the United States, Albert identified a parallel need within caregiving communities. Caregivers, the unsung heroes who dedicate their lives to supporting others, often
find themselves without adequate resources, recognition, or respite. Albert’s vision was to create an organization that not only acknowledges the invaluable contributions of caregivers but
also provides them with the necessary support to thrive both personally and professionally.

Thus, the Serengeti Care Foundation was born—a manifestation of Albert’s lifelong commitment to service, education, and community empowerment. The foundation stands as a pillar of support for caregivers, offering resources, education, and a compassionate community to ensure they are equipped to navigate the complexities of their roles. Albert’s journey exemplifies the profound impact that one individual’s dedication can have on countless lives, fostering a culture of care that transcends borders.

Mission Statement

At the Serengeti Care Foundation, our mission is to connect, support, and innovate within
caregiving communities. We are dedicated to empowering caregivers by providing them with the
resources, education, and community support necessary to enhance their well-being and
effectiveness. By fostering connections among caregivers, introducing innovative solutions to
caregiving challenges, and offering unwavering support, we aim to uplift those who selflessly
care for others.

🌿 Our Core Values

We’re building something real here. A community rooted in care, compassion, and the messy, beautiful work of being human. These values aren’t just what we do—they’re who we are when no one’s watching and everything’s chaotic and someone’s crying happy tears over a snack drawer (it happens).

We believe in showing up with heart, holding space for joy and pain, and laughing through the awkward parts. Because this world is heavy sometimes. But with the right people and the right values, it becomes a little lighter, a little kinder, and a whole lot more meaningful.

So here’s what we stand on, stand for, and sometimes dance silly around.

Gratitude

We choose to see the good—even in the hard moments. Gratitude keeps us present, reminds us what matters, and deepens our connection to each other. Whether it’s a quiet thank you or a full-on celebration dance, we believe appreciation makes everything more meaningful.

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”
— Aesop

It also turns coworkers into family and small wins into sacred ones.

Balance

Balance isn’t just about managing time—it’s about honoring what your body, heart, and spirit need to thrive. We believe in showing up fully, and also knowing when to rest. Because caring for others shouldn’t come at the cost of yourself.

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm, and harmony.” — Thomas Merton

Sometimes that rhythm looks like deep focus… and sometimes it looks like pajamas until noon.

Care

Care is everything. It’s the way we listen. It’s the way we follow up. It’s the unexpected text that says “I see you.” Around here, care isn’t reserved for a job title—it’s a way of being.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word…” — Leo Buscaglia

Big or small, every act of care creates a ripple that reaches farther than we know.

Belonging

You belong here. Period. Not because you checked a box, but because you’re human, and that’s enough. We celebrate all the parts of people—especially the ones they were told to hide.

“True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are.” — Brené Brown

Come as you are. Bring snacks if you want, but mostly just bring your real self.

Community

We’re not meant to do life alone. Real community holds you up when you’re tired, cheers you on when you’re scared, and reminds you that your story matters. We create space for connection because healing happens when we do life together.

“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” — Helen Keller. We’re building a village where every voice matters—even the one that’s still finding its way.

Accountability

We don’t expect perfection—we just expect presence. We own our mistakes, ask better questions, and always, always choose growth over ego. Accountability isn’t a punishment—it’s a pathway to trust, healing, and doing better together.

“Accountability breeds response-ability.” — Stephen Covey
It’s how we build safety, deepen relationships, and keep this foundation strong.

Humor

We laugh—a lot. Humor keeps us grounded, breaks tension, and reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously (even when the work is serious). Joy is part of resilience. A well-timed joke or goofy dance break? That’s medicine.

“Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.” — Victor Borge
If we’re not having at least one good laugh a day, check on us. Seriously.

Integrity

Integrity is doing the right thing—especially when no one’s watching. It’s being honest in the small moments, following through on your word, and treating people with respect even when it’s hard. Around here, integrity isn’t about perfection—it’s about alignment between our values, our words, and our actions.

“Integrity is choosing courage over comfort.” — Brené Brown
Integrity is how trust is built. And trust is how community lasts.

Guided by these values, the Serengeti Care Foundation endeavors to create a lasting impact in
the lives of caregivers and the communities they serve, championing a culture of care that is
both sustainable and far-reaching.
